Don't forget that great Vedas quote, David: "Truth is one, the sages speak of it by many names."

It's seemed to be that there are plenty of folks who misquote sayings and mythology from other cultures (due, in part, to their own stupidity), but for the most part, the mythologies all point to certain truths applicable to any human. If you trace the cultural sayings of hundreds of cultures, they all point to mythologies that, in the end, are all very similar to each other.

There's a wonderful book titled The Hero With A Thousand Faces and it's sole agenda is to exemplify the staggaring likenesses between mythologies and religions of cultures that, at the time, had never come in contact with each other, and the likenesses between modern mythologies and (i.e. Star Wars) and these older texts and sayings. Here's a piece from the first chapter:

Throughout the inhabited world, in all times and under every circumstance, the myths of man have flourished; and they have been the living inspiration of whatever else may have appeared out of the activities of the human body and mind. It would not be too much to say that myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human cultural manifestation. Religions, philosophies, arts, the social forms of primitive and historic man, prime discoveries in science and technology, the very dreams that blister sleep, boil up from the basic, magic ring of myth.

I've never seen The Interpreter, so I can't speak to that. But, pearls of cultural wisdom have never been there to aid the socio-political landscape. They've been there to help mold more thoughtful, mindful human beings. It's up to each singular person to take that advice and live it, or ignore it as dreamlike mumbo jumbo. I'd hope you might consider the less cynical road.
